Guide[]

First and most importantly. R8-X8 can not be interrupted. At least not by normal means. Don’t waste your time interrupting and don’t yell at other for not interrupting. It’s not how it works.

As soon as R8-X8 is pulled he will channel ANALYZING THREAT…

This is a 30s channel and the raid needs to deal enough damage to break his shield. Failing in breaking his shield (lack of DPS/undermanning) will cause R8-X8 to cast PACIFY WILDLIFE, leaving combat in the process and stunning everyone within proximity. Once the shield is broken he will cast THREAT DETECTED, starting the actual encounter.

The encounter then starts off with R8-X8 REQUESTING AIR SUPPORT. This is a 20s long buff and has 45s cooldown. Every 2s for its duration a raid member will be locked on for Aerial Strikes. Getting hit by a strike causes players to be knocked down and incapacitated for 2s as well as taking average AoE damage.

Aerial Strikes should be used to destroy Hypergolic Fuel Cells. Hitting a cell with Aerial Strikes will cause it to detonate in a big radius (purple indicator) as well as causing a Hypergolic Reaction. Hypergolic Reactions leave behind a fire puddle which deals high elemental damage to everyone standing in it.

Hypergolic Reactions caused by Aerial Strikes are currently not visible. This is a bug.

After REQUESTING AIR SUPPORT R8-X8 will immediately channel INCINERATE. This is a massive frontal AoE conal that deals high amounts of elemental damage, ticks every 0.5s for 3 sec and consumes one charge of Hypergolic Fuel every 0.3s. INCINERATE should always be faced away from the raid and the tank should have a cooldown up to mitigate its damage or run quickly to the side or through the boss to avoid multiple ticks. INCINERATE will also destroy all Hypergolic Fuel Cells that it hits, causing a Hypergolic Reaction. INCINERATE has a 15s cooldown.

The only thing that interrupts INCINERATE is his buff “Hypergolic Fuel Available” reaching 2 stacks. R8-X8 starts with 30 stacks.

STATUS: REQUESTING SUPPLIES is a 3s cast and will randomly spawn up to 6 additional Hypergolic Fuel Cells. 30s cooldown.

STATUS: REFUELING is pretty self explaining. R8-X8 will consume a Hypergolic Fuel Cell within close proximity and build 15 new stacks that he will use for more INCINERATE casts. 40s cooldown. Keeping the boss away from fuel cells prevents him from refueling causing no additional INCINERATE channels once his available fuel is depleted (3 INCINERATE channels consume all his stacks). 40s cooldown.

RECALIBRATING THREAT lowers threat by 90% as well as knocks down and stuns for 1.5s. Tank needs to re-taunt really quick or a tank swap should happen here.

STATUS: HEAT WARNING is a buff/debuff R8-X8 receives when standing in fire puddles caused by Hypergolic Reactions. This can stack up to 5 times. Per stack R8-X8 receives 5% more damage but also deals radiation damage in a 15m radius. This damages also increases with stacks and can cause heavy damage on everyone in close proximity. Especially melee heavy groups may run into issues with this. The boss should always be moved when he’s getting burned by Hypergolic Reactions. This will cause him to drop stacks. 1 stack will fall off every 3s.

Reminder: Hypergolic Reactions caused by Aerial Strikes are invisible! If the boss gains heat stacks even if you don’t see a puddle, it’s best to relocate him.

Hypergolic Fuel cells can actually be destroyed by Vengeance/Vigilance Jugs/Guardians and Annihilation/Watchman Marauders/Sentinels by DoT-spreading to them. This is most likely a bug. This will also not cause Hypergolic Reactions which makes it a perfect way to get rid of cells close to the boss as the boss does not need to be moved.

Gaining a 6th stack causes R8-X8 to become with GLOWING HOT and gain a buff called SYSTEM.EXCEPTION:0x46495245. This buff lasts 15s and makes R8-X8 immune to taunts, he will go rampage on the raid group causing massive ride wide damage and knocking everyone around in close proximity. This can wipe out melee in just a few moments. It’s best to just step away from the boss at this point and the let the buff expire before engaging again in melee range.

Additional abilities and mechanics, since some people asked:

The boss has 2 flurry attacks: Seasoned Shot and Incendiary Rounds.

Seasoned Shot is used at when someone with threat is outside of melee range but within 20m of the boss. Seasoned Shot deals quite high damage per hit and leave a debuff INCENDIARY RESIDUE on the player that decreases threat generated by 1% and increased damage received from any fire damage by 10%. This effect can stack up to 50 times and cant be cleansed. If tanks perform tank swaps they should do it in melee range to prevent getting this debuff.

Incendiary Rounds is used occasionally in melee range, it hits for moderate damage but leaves behind a a dot for 9 seconds, which ticks once every 3 seconds. This ability will deal increased damage if the target has the INCENDIARY RESIDUE debuff.

TLDR; Keep his Hypergolic Fuel Available stacks low, don’t tank him in Hypergolic Reactions, keep him away from Hypergolic Fuel Cells, destroy as many Hypergolic Fuel Cells with Aerial Strikes and INCINERATEs as possible. Rinse and Repeat.

R8-X8 (Droid Boss) : Should be done with two tanks. Have solo tanked it, but it does get a bit interesting, so I'd advise against it.

TRY to have the two tanks set and on the same page before pulling. *It seems like 3 tanks pop out of the woodwork as soon as the boss is pulled and ready to go, and fighting for taunts will likely mean no taunt when it's actually needed for the swap.

To the right of where you enter his area, there's a bunker with two round vents/turret mount/whatever in front of it. These are perfect markers to where the tanks should stand.

This keeps the boss roughly where the yellow circle is.

There is an aggro drop when one tank gets punted. After this, you have a small window where the tank not knocked can taunt.

EDIT: the small window to taunt is wrong; taunt immunity is due to stacks hitting 7 (see below), not something that's tied to the punt itself. Esp important if using the cheese strat.

This happens right after a channeled ability (sorry, forgot the name), and there's a visible punt.

Incinerate is what globals everyone, usually.

Keep it turned toward bunker, pop cooldowns

You Don't want him refueling.

If his stacks go down enough (4 or less), people can interrupt lack of fuel interrupts his incinerate.

If he stands in fire and the stacks hit 7 (above 5 is dangerous territory), he goes on a rampage during which he becomes taunt immune and runs around pew pewing the squishies while they yell at you for not getting aggro back (you can't)

They can be killed via AoE, but not direct damage.

We're currently debating simply putting red circles over the canisters and GTFOing to destroy those near the yellow circle in the pic (basically within where his big yellow would be)... but just know you don't want him getting the canisters or standing in fire.

If a tank gets a red circle, put it between the two tank spots, then run back. This keeps it away from everyone and still keeps the two tank spots clear.

R8-X8 (Droid Boss) alternative/cheese strat Best way to solo tank the boss is to jump up onto the bunker close to the door and stand up top

If done right, incinerate doesn't affect you (you're above it)

if you stand in the yellow circle and pop a cooldown, it still knocks you off, must run back or place it so you still have room

other tank should stand off to the side toward the cliff; out of incinerate cast but away from the door to not let the boss reset * FOR THE LOVE OF GOD if you're the "other" tank(s) and see one go up there, * taunt during the starter shield (tank up top pulls and taunts, you taunt after that, they taunt as shield drops to eat all that yummy threat) and IF it goes on a DPS/Healer... otherwise, assume the other tank will taunt as soon as the punt ends. * otherwise you're likely to taunt over them and now they're wasting taunts or the cheese is nullified * DO NOT go up top with them. You don't want them getting circles up there, and every person up there multiplies the chance of a circle (sorry DPS/heals, you stay out, too)

If done wrong, it gets "interesting"

The boss can reset' * If DPS/other tanks in the group decide to stand too close to the area entrance and the boss aggros on them (rampage/you got punted and didn't have a taunt/etc)

  • If someone goes through the gate and thus leaves area (because why not T_T')

If the boss is too far from the wall (say, after a rampage, or after fighting someone who thinks pulling him to the cliff sounds fun) Incinerate will hit you, have DCD ready if you see your health start to freefall

DPS like to jump up as well, multiplying the amount of circles you might experience

High chance of pug sorc healers "helping" you wipe the group

High chance of "friends" helping you meme wipe the group (thank you, translocate)
